We offered the blood from our beloved lurcher who is such a brave boy (here he is receiving his bravery award for peacefully receiving surgery without anesthetic) . Apparently greyhound and lurcher blood is very useful for transfusions and our lurcher happily absorbs the attention at the vets so we thought he would be ideal. Sadly though it is not as simple as that. There are strict criteria about age, weight and there must be a match etc. Therefore last minute offers to help cannot be relied on. There must be a supply of suitable blood in the bank.
That night a match was miraculously found from a wonderful canine donor from Manchester and the blood was rushed down to Stoke animal hospital. Otto would have died without the transfusions. But sadly in the end the evil cancer took his full and active life. He loved his cuddles.
"PLEASE CONSIDER WHETHER YOUR DOG MAY BE SUITABLE AS A BLOOD DONOR. DOGS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY MAY NEED BLOOD TO SAVE THEIR LIVES AT SOME POINT. I HAD A WONDERFUL LIFE WITH LOVELY PARENTS (THAT'S ME ABOVE IN MY LIFE JACKET WITH MUM ON A CANOE TRIP) WHICH WAS GIVEN A CHANCE OF SURVIVAL BY A WONDERFUL CANINE DONOR. MY WISH IS TO RAISE AWARENESS AND TO ENCOURAGE BLOOD DONATIONS TO GIVE OTHER DOGS THE BEST CHANCE IN LIFE SHOULD THEY FALL ILL OR INJURED "
Otto is very sadly missed by all who knew him including his MANY pals at PACO-Pet Services.
Hopefully in Otto's memory dogs' lives will be saved. Thank you
